چکیده

is to be considered bad medicine, for only a "'action of these patients have malaria and need quinine. In the present shortage of quinine, such a practice is to be utterly condemned as Evolving a tragic waste of quinine. While thorough clinical examination, including ? careful history, will usually give a strong Judication whether or not the patient with lever ' has malaria, with modern methods of staining blood films it often takes less time, gives less trouble, and is always much more satisfactory to base diagnosis on examination of ??d films. This should always be done when Possible. Some hospitals in India are adopting the Policy that quinine can be given only to patients ^ whose blood parasites have been demonated, and this policy has not only affected ? great economy in quinine (up to 75 per cent 11Lon<^hospital), but also has made for greater cjncacy of treatment of malaria, for those who s low parasites are then treated properly and n?t half-heartedly.

Modified Giemsa staining for rapid diagnosis of malaria infection.

OBJECTIVES To develop and evaluate a rapid method for the diagnosis of malaria infection by microscopy of stained blood films. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Blood specimens were collected from randomly selected confirmed malaria cases (n = 75) and suspected malaria cases (n = 175). The microscopy was done on each set of blood films stained by modified and the standard Giemsa staining methods. RESULT...

Evaluation of different methods for diagnosis of P. falciparum malaria.

Rapid diagnosis is a prerequisite for institution of effective treatment and reducing the mortality and morbidity of falciparum malaria. This study was taken up to compare the efficacy of various rapid methods viz, acridine orange, Plasmodium falciparum histidine rich protein II antigen detection and Field's stain with traditional microscopy i.e, Leishman stain for diagnosing falciparum malaria...

Modified Field's staining--a rapid stain for Trichomonas vaginalis.

Trichomonas vaginalis, a flagellate protozoan parasite commonly found in the human genitourinary tract, is transmitted primarily by sexual intercourse. Diagnosis is usually by in vitro culture method and staining with Giemsa stain. There are laboratories that use Gram stain as well. We compared the use of modified Field's (MF), Giemsa, and Gram stains on 2 axenic and xenic isolates of T. vagina...

Comparative study of peripheral blood smear and quantitative buffy coat in malaria diagnosis.

A rapid test for diagnosis of malaria based on acridine orange staining of centrifuged blood samples in a microhaematocrit tube (QBC) was compared with Leishman stained thin peripheral blood smear in 287 samples. Malaria was diagnosed in 44 patients by Leishman staining technique and in 65 patients by QBC method. The QBC method allowed detection of an additional 21 cases. Thus the prevalence ra...
